30 Days – Write Your Goals for the School Year

Ok, so I thought I’d try the 30 day blogging challenge from Teach Thought over the month of Sept.

Day 1:  Write your Goals for the school year.  Be as Specific or Abstract as you want.

Goal #1:  I want to always maintain a 1 week planning cushion on all of my classes.  Pretty self-explanatory.  I do have a year-long calendar planned out by topic, but I would like to have all of my handouts and assignments chosen at least a week in advance.  Especially in Physics and 21st century skills, it will help me see the big picture.

Goal #2:  I want to try to be more aware of decisions that might be made in my department(s).  I’m normally pretty quiet, but this year I’m going to try to speak up and have more of a voice.

Goal #3:  I want to have more student work to ‘show off’.  This is my last year in the classroom with carpeted walls, and I think I’m going to miss having such a big display area when we move to the new school.

Goal #4:  This is our school’s first year with TransMath 3.  I want to do my best to follow the program and teach the classes with fidelity.  The class is very softly scripted, and it comes with pretty much everything I need, but I still need to be diligent about pre-reading and making sure I’m using all of the materials as intended.

Goal #5:  I want to make more original activities to share on my blog.  I’m on an extended contract with less preparation time this year, so this might be tough.  Often, when I’m strapped for time, I end up teaching what is familiar rather than trying something new.

Goal #6:  I want to finish my Master’s Degree.  I just need to finish and defend my capstone, and take two more online classes.

I think that’s about it.  I’m sure there’s more, but these are the big ones 🙂
