30 Days – One Piece of Technology

Day 2:  Write about one piece of technology that you would like to try this year, and why. You might also write about what you’re hoping to see out of this edtech integration.

This question is tough, because I usually jump in with both feet on technology.  I already use things like Poll Everywhere, Socrative and Remind on a semi-regular basis.  I do notes with a combination of a SmartBoard and a Document Cam depending on the situation.

The biggest thing I would like is a Teacher device that allows me to control presentations and write on the board from anywhere in the classroom.  When my lesson plans allow me to roam freely, I use proximity as my best classroom management strategy.  It seems like all too often, to adequately show something to all students, I end up stuck to the board.  In my mind, I call this the ‘Vanna White’ effect.

I want to be able to walk around and sit with students while teaching.  I want to be able to hand my device to a student so they can illustrate their thoughts for the whole class.  I got to use AirServer in one of my grad school classes, and to have something similar for the classroom would be downright awesome!  As we prepare for the new high school, each teacher should be getting a tablet/keyboard combo.  I am VERY excited for mine, and hope that it frees me from the board.
